"Hand Hygiene"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus

(as a relative),

Nurse attended to a vulnerable traciostomy patient and used suction device on throat with no gloves and put plastic sleeve straight back on the end on suction tube before placing back to suction unit. They then went straight to another vulnerable patient without washing hands or use of alcohol gel opening the other patients beaker, filling it up with juice and then placing full hand on of beaker lid to secure it before placing beaker in patients mouth from which they drank from. Both unable to communicate their thoughts or feelings.  I though this was terrible, basic hand hygiene technique not being followed...this was watched over by 3 other ward staff who never commented on their colleague.
