My late husband was a patient for approximately five years at the Renal Clinic, where we received excellent care and attention.
During this period, his kidney function deteriorated and he was offered dialysis, the doctors at renal clinic explained everything to him and we had a home visit from Gillian Wood, renal supportive care nurse who offered a tremendous amount of advice and help. The way in which it was all explained really banished any fear or trepidation one might have felt and gave confidence.
He chose not to go ahead with dialysis as in his particular case, he had multiple other medical problems, so dialysis was going to be difficult for him, however the final decision was definitely his.
As I was his sole carer 24/7 and accompanied him on every hospital visit, I have the utmost admiration for the work carried out by the renal supportive care team, they all gave encouragement, help and advice, even between clinic visits. I was always assured of support just by telephoning Gillian, our care nurse.
I personally feel that they all gave the best treatment possible and I am particularly grateful for all their help.
