"A&E nurses thinking they know best"

About: Darent Valley Hospital / Accident and emergency

The nurses in a&e think they know more than what the doctors do. Seems just cause patients are capable of walking the 10ft to the toilet then they can't be aything wrong with them. The sisters exact words was " they is nothing wrong with her. She has been up and down to the toilet the whole time she's been here" maybe next time I will just go to the toilet in my bed rather than try and make less work for the nurses and then taking time out to clean the bay and change the bedding.

I ended up leaving Darant valley to go to another hospital where I got the care and help I needed and got diagnosed with pancreatitis. This is could've been so much more serious if I had took notice of the sister and just dismissed my symptoms as was told they was nothing wrong with me.

We are very concerned to read your account of what happened when you visited the Emergency Department. Did you or a family member bring your concerns to the attention of any other staff member about what you experienced?

If you would like us to look into the issues you have raised please do contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 01322 428382 or email dgn-tr.pals@nhs.net.

Thank you.
