I had surgery 10 days ago to remove my prostate and lymph glands. Thanks to the team I am recovering well and hopeful that the cancer was contained and removed - the weeks ahead will tell.
Firstly, I would like to express my thanks and admiration to the entire urology team, they have been fantastic and everything has gone like clockwork. I have met so many great people... theatre admissions; pre op nurses and doctors; theatre staff; recovery nurses; and the many staff of Ward 7B including the caterers and cleaners. Thank you all.
I only needed 1 night in hospital but the pain over the first couple of days was severe, some was from the gas and some from the surgery in the lower abdomen - I had 6 incisions for the robotic instruments and the right hand wound gave me hell. The catheter was in for 9 days and whilst very uncomfortable it was not a problem. I’m now leaking urine slightly but it looks like a battle I can win - with the help of pelvic floor exercises.
Exhaustion has been my biggest challenge thus far.... I have been out for short walks but I have spent much time crashed in the chair - my wife has been a star.. I have been well fed with light healthy meals and lots of water. I am just starting to pick up on some paperwork from the office.
This is certainly a major operation and I don’t think I could have asked for anything better.
