I had a bad fall and went to A&E at Ayr Hospital. I'd ruptured my shoulder and had a badly grazed and bleeding face.
I was overwhelmed with the efficiency and care I received. I did not have to wait long at all to see a triage nurse and then after that only a short wait to see a doctor (because I had a head injury). All was fine and then they sent me quickly for an xray. There was nothing wrong with the xray but there was lots of shoulder pain. So, I was sent to see the physio who worked in A&E. She thought there might be tissue damage. She was called Lindsey and she gave me a very thorough ultrasound. She could see the rupture and could even spot a previous trauma on my shoulder from 9 years ago!
She gave me some very simple exercises to do and went to see if there was a slot for me to see an orthopaedic surgeon but there weren't any free that day (they only run their clinic on a Thursday). But she showed the surgeon my ultrasound results and he thought I might need surgery. She rang me at tea time and explained that the surgeon wants me to have an MRI scan. I'm very impressed because she's ordered the scan for me and I don't need to sort it out myself.
"Great care following a bad fall"
