On May 3, 2018 I took myself into A&E late PM with a serious eye issue. I felt it was a retina problem but was advised to make an appointment on the 31st or failing that to contact Windsor eye dept at King Georges for an appt. Despite being blind in one eye and pointing out the other eye was a problem I was sent home.
I was able to get an emergency appt at Frimley on 31st and a doctor saw me and diagnosed a partial retinal detachment. He called St Thomas's and at 10.00 that night called me to check they had phoned me to arrange surgery the next day. The consultant called at 10.30 to arrange the operation for Suinday June 3rd.
I am still only 10 days into the 28 day recovery but it seems to be going well.
I would like to thank all the staff in the eye dept who are always cheerful despite obvious huge workloads and especially to the doctor who went beyond what would normally be expected by contacting me after hours to ensure I had been looked after. Once again, a very grateful thank you to all. During my treatment a cloudy replacement lense was discovered in the other eye, the reason it was struggling. In defence of A&E they didnt have the correct equipment to diagnose . Maybe I was unlucky that afternoon.
