I've always had awful experiences with this hospital (opthamology department) but today has been the worst. Short summary - on the waiting list for an eye operation. Finally get an appointment after waiting for ages. But then it gets cancelled. Appointment gets made again so all prepared. Took the day off as annual leave. Informed work the nature of the procedure and being unable to work for the next few days so cover for my absence made. All set for the eye surgery and the what happens - get a call 1 hour before the operation (as we were on our way to the hospital) that it is cancelled.. And the reason.. THEY LOST MY MEDICAL NOTES!. How can you lose patients medical records?? Such important information. Are there not systems in place? Was everyone looking? Could it not be retraced? If you knew it was missing could you not have informed me so I could have re arranged work plans? Instead of ringing 1 hour before! Hospital didn't have the courtesy to ring to let me know this problem was occurring before hand on the days prior to the operation date. Now having to take unpaid leave as work have already arranged cover for my absence seeing as we all thought I would have had the operation and be on sick recovering! So can't go into work tomorrow... or for the rest of the week. Who pays/suffers for that?? I do. And due to who? The hospital for being so careless and losing my notes! Absolutely ridiculous. And to top it off now I have to wait another 2 weeks before I get another appointment?! It is so frustrating when you pay your taxes and contribute to the NHS - a health system that looks after everyone yet the one time you actually need to use it - they can't even provide any healthcare.
"How do you lose patient medical records?!?!"
