"Doctor was shocked that I was not sent an ambulance"

About: NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service)

(as the patient),

Woke up at 0130 am in extreme chest pain, difficulty in breathing and pain in left arm and neck to the point I couldn't move them properly.  I thought it would be a good idea to call NHS 24 first as my gp has always advised I do explained the symptoms to be told I should take some painkillers and would get called back in 3 hours.  Pain continued so decided at 0230 I would go to a&e, when I arrived doctor was shocked that I was not sent an ambulance turned out I had acute myopericarditis that kept me in hospital for 16 days, 6 weeks on I am still not at work and even walking to the shop feels like i ran  a marathon.

From now on I will always call 999 not NHS 24.
