* The physical environment is pleasing - the UCH tower is a peaceful haven to recover in. Its location is helpful for visitors to attend after work.
* My operation happened on schedule at a time when national NHS chiefs were advocating blanket cancellation of elective surgery.
* The admissions staff and the anaesthetist put me at ease, and the consultant - my reason for choosing UCH - delivered an outcome beyond my expectations.
* At my post-admission meeting with some of the younger surgical team members, I think there was some confusion about the plan evident amongst the younger surgical team members, who understandably were under more pressure than I felt. This could have discouraged some patients.
* The key nursing staff - the majority of whom were Europeans - were friendly, considerate, and professional. Everyone else on the nursing and curative side was similarly pleasant and professional. Pain control was excellent.
* The lead physio gave me just what I needed to get mobile, although the ward was subsequently rather sparsely covered.
* The food truly was beyond awful, but always served with courtesy and care.
* Discharge was a bit chaotic, but I think that was probably 50% down to me.
* If I needed my operation again (which could happen), I would try to attend UCH again.
"A very positive experience"
