"It’s a shame patient transfer ambulance driver..."

About: County Hospital

I’d recently took my father for his ct scan and must say what an excellent service was provided. Staff were really helpful and friendly.

My father is severely disabled and can hardly walk, so I had left him by the entrance in a wheel chair and went to fetch the car. On my return there was no space in drop off and ambulances were parked. I literally got out the care to help my father out the wheel chair into the car and was about to leave when a patient transfer ambulance driver became very rude and abusive about where I’d stopped. I had no other choice and he was already parked.

Patient experience is paramount to providing an excellent service and sadly this member of staff really let an excellent experience down. My father was most upset and is a vulnerable 87 yr old. I was literally a few minutes as had planned as best I could to keep collecting my father to the shortest time possible. There was no obstruction to other drivers.

I am so sorry to read that your experience with the member of the Transport Service was not what it should have been. I will ensure I share your feedback with the team who oversee patient transport for their information.

I am pleased to note your comments around the service during your father's scan. I will also pass these onto the staff in the x-ray department.

With best wishes

Rebecca Pilling, Quality Improvement Facilitator: Patient Experience.
