"2nd time mum experience"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Maternity Care (Wards 21-24)

(as a service user),

I felt my experience 2nd time round was not good. I went into early labour with a sweep and was kept in. Triage staff especially julieanne was exceptional and professional. Was moved to AMU unit. I felt the midwife who was looking after me didnt really bother too much how my labour was progressing when I told her if I would be  checked as per triage it was 2hrs over! I was in full blown labour, I knew from my last birth (which was an epidural) I had to get my waters burst and my delivery was very fast. The same happened this time when my waters burst I gave birth within 20mins, only gas n air (which was horrific) after continuously asking for pain relief! all I had was paracetamol from triage hrs before. The midwife who seemed experienced kept having to check with other midwifes on decision making throughout my labour. I had to get testing as my waters hit a midwife due to fast delivery as a mat to catch my waters trying to be put down when I was giving birth ( blood test taken) I ended up left on my own with partner for numerous hours, however was not offered any painkillers at all. Delayed getting out of hospital until due to baby checks not being done. again partner had to help midwife with check oxygen levels on new device midwife didnt know how to connect correctly. I had a birth previously several years ago at different hospital in Glasgow. The experience was amazing compared to this time. Wishaw was decided as alot closer to me travel wise. I was proud I got through labour and recovered faster than before. Just a little disapointed
