About: Pilgrim Hospital

What could be improved

I am the carer and husband of a patient who is still receiving treatment.

What i find inexcusable is a marked reluctance to impart information on the illness and the medicines used to combat it.I even had a senior nurse ask me was there any particular reason

why I wanted to know. This hospital is full of posters proclaiming how dear the staff hold the dignity of their patients.

I am fully aware of the recent publicity surrounding this Hospital.

But I know that this has no bearing on my comments expressed hear.

I am very sorry that you did not receive the information and assistance that was entirely reasonable for you to expect. You are right that Pilgrim Hospital has over the last 12 months had some challenging times but there has been a great deal of work to pull these concerns around and significant improvements have been made; though there is always more to do. An important piece of work under development at the moment is a Carer's Policy which we are currently receiving comments back from patients, carers and staff. The policy sets out how we will work in partnership with carers as 'expert partners' in a patient’s care recognising that they often are just that - the experts. I hope that should your wife need further care from us that you will see the differences we are making; but in the meantime if you would like to receive a copy of our carers policy and give us your personal feedback then we would be very happy to send it to you; if so please contact us at patient.involvement@ulh.nhs.uk

Thank you and please again accept my apologies.
