"Poor triage care"

About: Warrington Hospital / Accident and emergency

Atteneded this evening with my partner who was staying with myself and out of his local area, he had developed symptoms of an ear infection and as he is about to go off shore for a week with work required to be assessed to ensure it was safe to be off shore. As a nurse myself I understand the pressures of a&e and would not of presented if oohgp would assess my partner but I knew the would not see him as he was out of his local area. After waiting 20-25 minutes we where called through to the triage nurse and basically told that it was pointless staying as it was not an a&e problem and we should ring 111, I explained I appreciated that it was not an a&e problem but due to my partner being due to travel to Scotland in the morning for work he needed to be assessed and treated befor going off shore, he was in pain and discomfort and would not of been in a&e if it wasn’t necessary he was seen before he set off for Scotland, the triage nurse was rude and unhelpful and basically turned us away, we may of waited the expected waiting time of 3 hours for a doctor as we appreciate he was not an emergency and doctors needed to see patients in priority of need. However her suggestion to been seen in Scotland was insulting, and ridiculous. At triage he was not asked if he had any long term medical conditions and no observations carried out. I actually work within this trust and would not recommend this service and will not be attending again I will travel to another hospital emergency treatment is needed. We left the department without been seen and where able to get the help we needed elsewhere.

We are sorry to read about your partner's experience - if you would like to contact Patient Experience Team on E: WHH.Patient.ExperienceTeam@nhs.net or call them on 01925 662281, so that they can understand more about what happened and discuss with the department.
