After having to attend A& E a month before my GP had put an urgent referral into Urology and they suggested I attend day bed suite at the Western General Hospital to have a flexible cystoscopy. The nurse that spoke to me before the procedure took a full medical history and was so understanding as it is quite complex. I was orientated around the department and shown were I could get changed into a gown and leave my clothing and bag. I didn't wait long before being called through to the outpatient theatres. When I entered I was greeted by Dr McKay, Nina (Scrub Nurse) I think that was her name and support worker Hazel. I had a quick chat with Dr McKay before she went ahead and done the procedure. Hazel (Support Worker) was great as she kept me distracted by talking to me and I felt so relaxed as previously I was very anxious during it but this time before I knew it the cystoscopy was done. I was then sent over to the ultrasound department and I had to get a scan to check both my kidneys. Previously I'd been told that I'd had cysts on one of my kidneys but discovered that this information was incorrect. The radiographer had told me that she couldn't see any cysts so I showed her the letter I'd received previously and she checked again and talked me through the appearance of the kidney on the screen. I really appreciated the radiographer reassuring me and double checking as it has been a difficult journey with my health.
