"Follow up notes from appt in October 2017 not..."

About: Leicester General Hospital / Neurology

I am commenting on behalf od my Father.

He was seen by the Neurology department in Oct. and diagnosed with Parkinsons. He was given one months supply of Sinemet ( he was not referred to any other help e.g. excercise, speech therapy etc - nothing was explained about this condition and no literature given - we have since found out from a parkinsons charity he should have been told about) - Dad found whole experience unpleasant - like they could not be bothered to explain because he was old.

When we tried to obtained more tablets one month later we were told by his medical practice they could not prescribed new tablets as no follow up notes had come through. The medical practice tried to obtain notes but with no success. The only solution in the end was to find the empty packet in the bin and show it to the medical practice at which they were good enough to issue a repeat prescription.

His follow up apptointment in Jan 2018 was cancelled and he was then given an appt in July 2018.

By Jan Father was feeling Sinemet medicine did not agree with him and caused him, he felt, to to have several episodes of not been able to swallow and choking (these were witnessed by others and were frightening for all concerned).

GP advised him to come off tablets (April) - confirmed no notes as yet been recieved! and they would contact General to chase notes.

Since been off tablets he as struggled - shaking worse, very wobbly on his feet, feeling very depressed. No response from General Hospital until yesterday to point out he as an appt in July! which I agree is now not long -( interesting they stay quiet until exactly one month before his next apppointment!).

Dad feels he as been forgotten and discarded due to age - I thought a newly diagnosed person should not be given tablets with no follow up on whether they were right . Also feel they have have things explained to them - apparently excercise classes might help tremendously - which we are now trying to source

Very strange that no contact between General and Medical practice even after 9 months!
