It was my daughter's birthday and has been through a very tough time this last three months with being very unwell.
She did manage to get home for a short time before becoming unwell again.
However, despite spending most of her day in hospital the medical team, nurses and play specialist made her feel so very special and I can not thank them enough. They made a girl who was so ill eight weeks ago that she only had a week if they couldn't get on top of the issues of HLH and Periferal T-Cell Lymphoma NOS smile from ear to ear. They really did go above and beyond.
I had tears in my eyes when they surprised her on her birthday, we had no idea. It was just what was needed after the tough 3 months she has had, spending 10 weeks in hospital (3.5 weeks Aberdeen and 6.5 weeks in Edinburgh). My daughter has been on the Oncology Ward at Aberdeen Sick Kids, the team treating her are Dr Taylor, Dr Bishop and and there lovely group of doctors, unfortunately I do not know all their names, they seem a large team.
It's the small things that make the bigger things easier to cope with.
