What could be improved
Misleading admission letter, no clear guidance for where to report. "Please bring this letter with you and report to Lymington New Forest Hospital on your arrival." doesn't help! Letter gave impression that I should report to Knightwood Ward which was wrong. This was a routine tooth extraction so surprised that letter asked me to bring slippers and dressing gown.
Finally and most importantly, it is inappropriate that I should have been asked to read, accept and sign the consent form minutes before the treatment. I hasten to add that the dentist in this case was at all times professional and took me carefully through the form, he was working wi the system he had been given. This would have been a quicker process if I had had prior notice. In all other walks of life, where a contract is entered into, time is given to consider and reflect and a cooling off period is offered. Before medical treatment, patients should be given the form to read and consider beforehand not when they are apprehensive, ill and staff are in a hurry. Given the importance of medical treatment, it seems that the NHS not giving the patient the opportunity of reading the form first is a deliberate policy to avoid any controversy and difficult patient questions.
