I suffered a major pulmonary embolism on the evening of Sunday 27th May at home in St Ives. The ambulance arrived within minutes, the Paramedics worked for an hour to stabilise my condition prior to transferring me to Hinchinbrooke Hospital.
Given that it was late on a Bank Holiday Sunday evening, it was surprising that a CT scan was carried out rapidly and I was then transferred to an acute observation bed with the option (thankfully not needed) of transfer to ITU.
The subsequent treatment I received was simply superb at all times, my recovery surprisingly rapid and my admiration for the professionalism, care, competence and kindness of all the staff I encountered grew daily.
It is no exaggeration to claim that the care I received was almost world class let alone first class and I owe my rapid and continuing recovery to all concerned. It was also of note that the patience and professionalism displayed at night by nursing and auxiliary nursing staff towards a somewhat difficult patient was most impressive.
It is also worth noting that the standard of food was excellent (tasty, hot, well presented, beautifully cooked) and well above expectations.
All in all I cannot thank the hospital enough.
"Simply superb treatment"
