"Review of my HOME BIRTH"

About: Royal Free Hospital / Maternity

I would like to share my homebirth experience in Newham in case anybody is thinking of doing the same.

I gave birth at home in the middle of April. This was part of my homebirth plan.

I found the whole experience extremely positive and very empowering. People are always surprised when I tell them I had my daughter at home but for me it was the best decision I could have made.

My first child was born in a hospital and whilst I have the deepest respect and admiration for nurses, Midwives and doctors having a homebirth was definitely more suited to me. At home I could not have had a better experience. Being in the comfort of my own home and surrounded by everything that was familiar to me was truly wonderful. I am very proud to say that I did not take any pain relief and I felt in control majority of the time ( that last hour or so is a different story ha). Had I been in a hospital I am quite certain I would have taken every drug under the sun!

I took gas and air as well as Pethadine for my first (hospital) Looking back I do believe this led to me feeling confused and unfortunately I do not remember much of the birth to this day. Being off any pain relief meant that I was aware of my surroundings and I am now able to recall the experience which I find very powerful

The two Midwives who attended to me were the absolute best and I could not have wished for better midwives. They treated me with nothing but respect and I would have them again in a heartbeat. They kept interventions and monitoring to a minimum which was really appreciated as it meant that I was in my own space zone. The amount of patience and professionalism that they showed was amazing. How they are able to keep calm and composed under pressure is beyond me. They have nothing but my respect and admiration. I sincerely hope they get to see this review.
