I went to the emergency eye clinic on Saturday 2nd June 2018 and it was absolutely heaving with patients. Despite this, the staff were absolutely amazing - starting with the two lovely women on reception, right up through the clinical staff to the doctor. Their patience and kindness was exceptional, no matter what or who, they were faced with. They all made me feel that I was important and that I was a person and not just a hospital number. Everything was explained to me in a way that I understood - no medical jargon!
Yes, I was there for several hours, but through no fault of the staff - their eye scanner broke down in the morning, so the morning patients had to go back in the afternoon and this increased the number of patients to be seen in the afternoon.
All the staff coped very well with this with professionalism and care.
Not only was the scanner not working the public phone and the drinks machine were out of order - however, the reception staff went out of their way (despite being very busy) to keep the water machine topped up with clean and new cups.
Obviously there was nothing they could do about the phone so I would like to suggest that the hospital makes sure that these essentials are working in all areas of the hospital, which would make life easier, not only for their staff, but for patients too. Then I wouldn't have had to use Costa where it cost me nearly £5 for one drink and a sausage roll!
Well done eye clinic staff - I stand back with great respect for you all.
