After feeling unwell all of last Friday night, the 25th of May 2018, I took my wife to South Shields A&E where she was given a CT scan. The results showed a benign tumour on her brain so she was transferred to Sunderland Royal on the Saturday afternoon where she was admitted to the stroke unit and put into bed 19. From the moment we arrived till her eventual discharge on the Tuesday, the 29th of May, both my wife and my family were treated by ALL the staff with kindness, concern and care. After having an MRI scan on the Sunday we spent an anxious 48 hours thinking she had suffered a stroke but when the results of the MRI together with her bloods came back on the Tuesday morning, they showed an inner ear infection and she was discharged around 5pm that evening. For it being a Bank Holiday weekend all tests and bedside visits were carried out promptly and efficiently from the good natured staff. The ward was welcoming as well as being spotlessly clean. My wife was constantly monitored and assured and never once felt isolated or neglected. Top marks to everyone on the stroke unit from the cleaners to the consultants. Everyone of you deserve a medal. Thank you from my wife and me.
