"First consultation with spinal"

About: Hospital Of St Cross / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I went into consultation room. Wasn’t introduced. Was in a lot of pain. Was examined whilst got my clothing on. Was told to stand without my crutches whilst my coccyx was pressed. My husband offered to pass my crutches to me but consultant refused. I was trying to explain to consultant how it all started. He wasn’t interested was very abrupt. told me before he even offered an X-ray that I could buy a cushion. Nurses previous to consultation seen me in pain and was very kind and helpful..I was told to go for an X-ray but felt so upset and un easy that I asked my husband to take me home. I have since been in a lot of pain and went straight to bed. I have waited a long time for this appointment and feel let down. I was made to feel uneasy and uncomfortable. No compassion no respect 😢😢

Thank you for sharing your feedback on Care Opinion, about your appointment at the Hospital of St Cross. I was very disappointed to hear about your experience, and would like to apologise for the attitude and behaviour of the consultant you saw, as this is not the standard of care that we aim to provide.

I will pass on your comments to the team that manages our Orthopaedics service at St Cross. However, I would also urge you to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) team on feedback@uhcw.nhs.uk or on 0800 028 4203 so they can look into your concerns in more detail.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, we appreciate all comments both positive and negative, as it helps us to better understand our patients’ needs and to continually improve.
