"Hospital, excellent! Community midwives......"

About: Dorset County Hospital / Maternity

Moved to Dorset when I was about 36 weeks pregnant. Registered instantly with Blackmore vale partnership, to enroll with local midwifery set up. I got to see two totally different midwives, the first of which was totally inept, and after asking me the same simple questions over and over again it became apparent, that she no longer retains any passion for the job!

Two weeks later I met a completely different midwife, who produced evidence that at the last appointment they hadn't booked me into the hospital for D-day. So she apparently did it there and then again.

Then that was it, I got full term, my edd and then at 8 days over due I found myself contacting the hospital directly myself. Discovering I hadn't been booked in, I was unknown despite seeing midwives twice. The staff in hospital seemed a lot more upto the job, of looking after mummies to be!

Day 12 overdue they did want to induce me, filling me with fear of stillbirth by asking a doctor to haunt me with risks. Not once did that doctor show any respect for my choice, with no medical validation to my decision to wait a couple of days for nature to take the reins on when baby was going to come into our world. I thought it was an unkind and very cold approach, and pregnancy can be scary enough without filling mums with that much fear, with no reasonable advice on why it's also very acceptable to wait for baby to come when they are ready. (Sorrel, came just 14 days late)

Since leaving the hospital, I have had one phone call on Tuesday, saying a community midwife would call me and will then visit on the Wednesday - day two of being home with baby.

It's Thursday, and I received no contact yesterday and I don't hold out much hope for today.

To top it all off, I never received a red book so when I'll be able to register baby I do not know!

Wish I'd stayed in Somerset until baby had arrived, same midwife every time and she would regularly call to ask how I was which is what you'd expect.

Totally appalled at the shocking level of care I've received, and concerned it would had been no different if I had been a inexperienced first time mummy.
