"very poor"

About: Altrincham General Hospital

What I liked

nothing

What could be improved

could have actually treated me or at least taken a look!

Anything else?

I visited the A&E minor injuries department on 26th September, I arrived at 7:35, the department was meant to be open until 8pm.

I went to reception(waiting area was dark all lights off) Lady I spoke to said I was probably too late but she went to get a nurse.

She told me they had no x-ray department, that it was closed. She said there was no one to examine me, but that even if the x-ray department was open they wouldn't x-ray ribs anyway! she said the department was useless really and told me to visit my g.p

Which I did the following day and was told I had broken ribs.

Another gentleman came in to the unit after me, he was also told the department was closed.

no one took my details, the nurse didn't examine me, even after I requested she have a look.

I was very disappointed by the lack of concern, they seemed more interested in getting rid of me!

very unprofessional

Thank you for posting you comments regarding your experience at Altrincham General Minor Injuries Unit, we like to receive feedback regarding our services as we constantly aim to improve our communication with patients.

Regrettably, the unit cannot be open 24 hours per day, and as you comment, closes at 8pm. As a result of this, there does come a point when unfortunately staff have to close the doors to new arrivals, taking into account the number of people still waiting to be seen, and the number of patients who are already receiving treatment, and the complexity of the treatment needed by the patients who have already been booked in.

The x-ray department at Altrincham General Hospital does close at 6pm, and we can confirm that the information you were given regarding the x-raying of ribs is correct. However we can see from your posting, that our communication with you could have been much improved, and we are disappointed that you describe a lack of concern, and that the staff seemed more interested in getting rid of you.

We would like to reassure you that your concerns have been taken back to the staff of the Minor Injuries Unit and discussed, we would like to apologise to you for the way this information was communicated to you on the day.

If you would like to receive more specific feedback regarding your particular experience on that day, we would request that you contact our Patient Experience Team (Tel 0161 746 2019, or email pals@trafford.nhs.uk) and they would be happy to help you.
