"Victoria Ward , after 999 to A&E and ICU"

About: Warwick Hospital

My partner has needed an emergency 999 trip to A&E four times in the last 6 months. Each time the paramedics arrived quickly and were very professional and kind.

One of the last visits culminated in a 7 week stay in Victoria Ward. I cannot explain how incredible the staff that run that Ward are. They are always so busy (many of the patients seemed to be suffering from some form of dementia) but the staff still manage to look after patients and visitors with patience and skill. Because I spent so much time on the ward with my partner I was able to witness first hand day and night what the job entails. I know no other profession where the staff regularly works continually so hard . Without exception they stay way over the end of their shift to ensure that all the jobs are done...it’s easy to forget that they have families of their own - maybe parents and children that also need their care. . They are usually always smiling and they somehow make time for everyone. I believe they are incredibly overworked and understaffed and I really don’t think people realise the responsibility these people have? Hard to understand how they manage to do everything correctly and not make more mistakes? Every member of staff on this ward seems to be looking out for not only the patients wellbeing but they support each other.at the same time.

It was a privilege to witness them at work.

Me, my family and my partner will be eternally grateful to not only the team in Victoria Ward and the paramedics but also A&E , ICU and Avon Ward, Dietetics, SALT, Physiotherapists and in fact anyone who contributed to my partners ultimate discharge .

Thank you Warwick Hospital for putting us back together again .
