"I really felt uneasy about my whole experience."

About: Pilgrim Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as a service user),

Firstly the staff were truly perfect bubbly and I felt at ease with my first part of the treatment. Then I had to wait to see the Dr, when the Dr came out to call me I went into the room and sat down I explained my issues and the Dr did some simple tests after this they said that they would put some drops into my eye and said it will sting a little. They were right, it really did sting.

They asked me to leave the room for about 15 minutes and they would call me back but during this conversation I really found it hard to understand them. I tried to make pleasant conversation with the Dr and I felt they came across abruptly. I left the room and waited....

The Dr finally called me back in to see them, again I found them difficult to understand. I sat down again and the Dr got their equipment ready they then processed and said can I look into this bright light, I did my best and asked please can you stop a moment as the light was really blinding me and hurting they then proceeded with my left eye and again I said the light is really hurting my eyes and I felt my eyes watering the Dr then placed more eye drops in my eyes and continued with the treatment I had to ask them to stop as the light was really uncomfortable.

Then out of the blue they placed a disc like shape on each of my eyes - what they were doing I don't know as they didn't explain anything to me. I know my eyes are very important that's why my optician referred me but after this treatment I came out worse than going in. I'm not saying that this Dr isn't good at her job far from it but understanding helps.

And one last thing while I was going through my treatment someone kept coming in the room dropping something off then talking to the Dr. I really felt uneasy about my whole experience.

Dear Jordi,

I am sorry that you felt uneasy following your visit to ophthalmology.

I will be sharing your feedback with the doctors and other staff who work in the eye department at our next governance meeting, so that we can learn from your comments and improve the quality of our patients’ experience.

Danielle Moore

Sister - Ophthalmology
