In January of this year I was over weight, going around on a mobility scooter and getting depressed. I asked the nurse at my GP surgery to refer me to active lifestyles, my doctor told me I wasn't bad enough.
I was sent to see a lovely man called Lee who explained that I didn't have to join a gym or anything like that, just move around more to begin with. So I got off my scooter and walked the dog a short distance. He then asked if I could do that twice a day instead of once, which I managed to do. I started to lose weight which being diabetic I knew was important.
He then asked if I want to try aqua aerobics. I said I would even though I couldn't swim. In 8 months I have lost 2 stone going to aqua aerobics up to 4 times a week and I am learning to swim. I still can't walk very far thanks to my arthritis, but I feel so much better. I can do things in water I can't do on dry land and really enjoy it. My asthma has improved and my blood sugars down and more stable. So thanks Lee for the start I need.
