"Worst hospital I've ever experienced in the..."

About: Barnet Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

In the last 18 days I have waited with my injured 93 year-old father for 8 hours without water in Barnet A&E, 4 hours at his first Fracture Clinic appointment and 2.5 hours at the second one, although in the in-between time he was inadvertently discharged and had to be reinstated.

At the 3rd clinic appointment they insisted on keeping him in to surgically remove the problem.

So far since then they have starved him for surgery for up to 16 hours on 3 days only to take him off the list again.

Today he is still nil by mouth after 16 hours and still waiting.

This is an abominable way to treat a frail 93 year-old who they're not letting me take home because it's 'safer' for him to be in hospital - yet he's not getting treatment or nutrients!

As he's not on either an orthopaedic ward or a surgical ward there are no doctors available for me to talk to.

On Friday they said he urgently needed surgery but it's Mon day and he still hasn't had the surgery!!

Thankfully most of the nursing staff are as helpful as they can be under the circumstances.

Hello

I am really sorry for the circumstances you find your self writing a review on NHS Choices, please accept my apology and pass it to your father also.

On reading the review I would like to offer you the opportunity to meet the Director of Nursing to discuss the issues you have raised.

Given the anonymity that NHS Choices I have I cannot help directly but I suggest you ask to speak to the consultant and ward sister, you could also ask to speak to the matron about the care you describe.

If you would like to meet the Director of Nursing please email me at richardchester@nhs.net

With Best Wishes

Richard
