"My daughter had sepsis and glandular fever and..."

About: Hastings Med P & Walkin

I would like to start by saying we saw a nurse and not a doctor and it was the first time I had been there so cannot rate on certain areas.

My 16 year daughter had been suffering from a sore throat for 3 weeks and her own gp had given her 2 lots of antibiotics that didn't seem to be doing anything.

On a Saturday she seemed to be getting a lot worse and her throats was almost closed over so I took her to the walk in centre.

We saw the nurse who took her obs. Her temp was high, her resps were 32, her bp was 89/54, her heart rate was 128 and he sent her home with clarythamiacin. As a 'lay' parent I probably would have gone home but I am a student nurse and so am aware of observation results. I immediately recognised that she was extremely poorly. On top of that the antibiotics were huge and he had seen her throat and knew she wouldn't have swallowed them so I took her straight to A & E. She was rushed straight in and put on numerous IVs and then blue lighted to Eastbourne where blood tests revealed sepsis and glandular fever. She was in hospital for 5 days.

Had I have taken her home as he told me too this could have been a lot worse.

It was quite clear my daughter was poorly as she was grey, clammy and breathing very fast but he really didn't seem that bothered, just wanted the next patient in.
