"Treatment of my 94 year old mum"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Accident & Emergency Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Medicine for the Elderly

(as a parent/guardian),

My mum was admitted to A& E at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary recently having had a fall at home. She had difficulty breathing and was in a lot of pain, as she had a broken rib and has COPD. On admission to A& E she was seen fairly quickly. The department was extremely busy but she was quickly x-rayed, scanned had bloods taken etc. She was treated with great kindness and dignity by the Dr who was looking after her Dr Burnett who took the time to always explain to us what treatment would be carried out. He had a lovely manner with my mum. I also must mention the kindness and professionalism of Nurse Louise and CSW Jackie I could not fault the care given by all three. It is a frightening experience for a very elderly person in great pain to be in such an noisy busy department but the staff looking after my mum did everything possible to help her. She was moved to Ward 202 and is now recovering well. I’m so grateful.

Dear Jennka,

Thank you for taking the time to contact us to highlight the positive experience you and your mother had whilst in our care.

It is often difficult in such a busy department, with lots of distractions to remember that it is the little things that provide reassurance for patients and their families.

I will make sure that the staff you mention are aware of your feedback and thank you once again for taking the time to get in touch.

I hope your mother is comfortable and making good progress in Ward 202.

With best wishes

Chris
