"Disappointing"

About: Poole General Hospital

After attending Poole hospital for myself for several years and finding it excellent, I was pleased when my mother was admitted after having a break in her leg. How wrong I was.

There is a list of bad experiences, for example:- I asked for a bed pan for my mother and the nurse said "what again" with a disgusted look! I came home worried, My mother was moved to 3 wards in her during her stay, each time the nurses and Phiso had to get to know her and she them, when you are unwell, this is exhausting in itself. In the end I felt my mother was being treated as a number in a bed, not as a person, her broken leg was treated, one Phiso was excellent, and had her standing and doing some steps, then she was moved and had no Phiso for 4 days, I believe this is very damaging to an older persons muscles. As a family we could see my mother getting worse before our eyes, no one would listen!!! In the end she was moved to Alderney hospital, where they found she had a urine infection, they got her walking the next day, lovely staff. I realise that Poole is a busy hospital, but it is still a hospital and people should be treated as whole people.Thank you to some nurses who were lovely, and to others please think about the patient's feelings as well as there injury.people get better when they feel safe and secure..

I am very sorry to hear of your mother's accident and much more so, of your concerns about her care while she was in Poole Hospital recovering from this.

I would be very happy to look into this in more detail for you.

If you would like me to do this, would you please email me at patientexperienceteam@poole.nhs.uk or telephone 01202 448499 explaining that you put a comment on NHS Choices and were invited to contact us.

There is an answer phone on this line so if you leave your name and number, we will call you back.

I hope your mother is continuing to make a good recovery.

Kind regards,

Patient Experience Team, Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
