"Colorectal team saved my life"

About: Salford Royal

3 years ago something happened that has changed my life, I was admitted as an emergency because I was in sever pain and had been for some time, Thankfully I came under the care of the colorectal team because within 48 hours I underwent emergency surgery for a mass in my bowel, it almost cost me my life, I was in theatre for many hours followed by intensive care then ward B1,

We have laughed, cried, We have talked endlessly especially during the many sleepless nights. Nothing has been too much trouble. You do not realise just how many people are involved in your care both front facing and behind the scenes until you experience something life changing. The surgeons, doctors, nurses and carers that I met are second to none. Nothing was to much trouble. I spent 18 weeks in hospital because I also developed sepsis and necrosis meaning more surgery and more time in ICU then HDU, before going home to spend many more weeks recovering. They saved my life, I almost died twice and for that I am eternally grateful. I don't know where we would be. I am still under their fantastic care and will be for another year or so. Thank you to the whole team and the staff in ICU, HDU and on B1, I have had over 20 hospital stays in the last 3 years endless ambulance trips in to A&E, spent time on EAU and STU too. My next stages will take me through Bariatric and then some final surgery to reverse my Ileostomy and do some other repairs too, Am I scared oh yes! But I also know that I am in the safest hands possible.

I am eternally thank full to all involved and my words will never be enough. But they know how much I appreciate them and hw they have helped me through my own personal hell.
