"The worst experience of my life."

About: St Mary's Hospital (HQ) (London)

What I liked

I did not like anything about this hideous hospital. I was born at this hospital and have always gone here as i am local, its never been a good experience and its always been dirty but by far my recent visit has been the worst and last.

What could be improved

I arrived in A&E with suspected pregnancy complications and extreme dehydration.

On arriving with a letter from my gp i was put into a room on A&E then left for over an hour when someone eventually remembered i was there i got the diagnois of hyperemisis gravidum which is a serious condition in pregnacy. They put a drip in after stabbing my arm 3 times and brusing it straight away leaving the blood for too long to it clotted then having to stab me again to get some more there was blood all over the bed and on the floor. I was offered an IV for 10 mins then told to move to another building to see a doctor. once id managed to get over to the building they told me to go back to A&E where they had momentarily lost my notes. I then was put in a cupboard type room which was rotten with blood on the floor for 3 hours with no IV to wait for a ward. When i finally got onto a ward after persistant asking i then had the most rude nurses ive ever incountered didnt talk to me and sat at the desk giving dirty looks. They said they had weighed me and put in a weight on my chart which wasnt mine and left me with a dirty sick bowl by my bed for 3 hours. i had to ask for my medicine and no body seemed to no i was pregnant offering me medication which isnt safe for pregnancy. After all this the doctor didnt bother coming over to see me for 18 hours and even when they came they kind of shrugged it off and said oh we havent got your blood results you probably wont get them back in here so you can just go home. With doctors telling you that, what confidence as a patient are you supposed to have. Its bad enough recieving this kind of attitude for minor injuries let alone a pregnancy illness. I then went to the UCH and they kept me in for a week as my baby was in danger something st marys should of picked up from my blood results which they never returned with.

Anything else?

I am now changing my antenatal care onto another hospital and will never again step foot in st marys. If you would like rude staff, ignorant doctors, dirty wards and no communication then this is the hospital for you.
