"Holiday prescriptions"

About: General practices in Lanarkshire

(as the patient),

I ordered an online prescription from Logan Practice Website and specifically stated on the form that this was an early prescription as I was going on holiday for 2 weeks. I received an email saying the prescription would be ready on Wednesday.

As I've had problems before with prescriptions not being ready my partner went to the local pharmacy on Thursday to collect this. They knew nothing about the prescription. He then went to the surgery to be told that the prescription was too early and the Dr wouldn't complete it. He was also told to phone after 4pm on the Friday.

Friday is too late for the prescription to be ready and as neither of us would be able to collect it on Friday I phone the surgery.

I explained the above situation and specifically that I had notified them of my holiday and that I needed my prescription today. The lady asked me when I was going on holiday and as I said Saturday she said the prescription was with the doctor and I could get it on Friday.

I explained again that this wasn't good enough and I needed it today to be told that I needed to phone at 5pm to see if it was ready, which is some way to resolving the problem. Although when I asked if she could guarantee that I would get my prescription today was told she couldn't guarantee this.

I eventually got a begrudged apology after reiterating that I had provided all the necessary information to get this prescription in plenty of time.

Finally I asked what would happen if the prescription was not ready by 5pm and was told "we'll cross that bridge if we get to it".

I am furious about this, if there are online services these should be adequate enough to cater for this scenario. As the surgery had got this wrong, they should have been able to guarantee my prescription should be available. The receptionist in the surgery, at the very least, should have offered to phone me when it was ready and assured me that they would sort it out for me, not that I have to do all the running about.

Really poor service, but to be honest I'm not surprised just disappointed.

Dear furstratedpatient,

Thanks for getting in touch with us, although I was really sorry to read about your experience with your local GP practice. What you have described sounds stressfull and I can appreciate your disappointment when trying to plan for your holiday.

I wondered if you could contact us directly so that we can pass this to your local GP Practice to raise with them?

If this is something you would be happy for us to progress with you can email me direclty at laura.jack@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk or call me on 01698 858 292.

Many thanks

Laura
