My G.P. saw me within an hour of my phone call to the surgery and after a 45 minute examination by my G.P. (who also telephoned the hospital stroke consultant on duty) I was referred by my G.P. to the T.I.A. outpatients' clinic at York District Hospital. What a relief I did not have to be admitted! The hospital telephoned me at home and made an appointment the next day for me to attend and see a consultant. All the staff were friendly and welcoming with a friendly greeting. Within minutes of arriving I was assessed by a nurse (for blood pressure; E.C.G.) . Within ten minutes I was interviewed by the consultant who said he would like me to have a C.T. Scan. He arranged that within ten minutes and I was taken by the consultant to the C.T. Scan area where I waited a few minutes before being scanned. The scan took only a few minutes, fully dressed, as it was for the head only. I returned to the consultant who was waiting for me and who showed me the computer images of the scan, and discussed the scan with me, describing what had happened in my brain and the outcome and any treatment. I was on my way back home in just over an hour. Brilliant. A most positive and encouraging visit to an N.H.S. hospital.
