"Assessment in the Victoria hospital"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Nephrology

(as the patient),

Arrived in severe pain having previously been seen earlier by minor injuries at Queen Margaret Hospital. Duty doctor at QMH diagnosed renal colic. Unable to walk so was in a chair being pulled along by my 75 year old Mother. Chair was so bumpy that I had to stop and lay down in the corridor whilst asking my Mother to get help.

A nurse came along and all they said was I couldn’t lie there, they showed to understanding or empathy of the pain I was in. I was taken through to assessment area where I was left for about 30 mins as no beds available. I had to lie myself down between 2 chairs.

I completely understand how busy the department was but felt a real lack of understanding. I felt overlooked and ignored. I was in severe agony. I also had my 7 year old daughter it’s me at the time who had to see me in such distress.
