"second time no follow up appointment"

About: Princess Alexandra Hospital / Ophthalmology

I have Macular degeneration of my right eye and have been having regular 8 week appointments to have an injection. My last appointment was on 6th April. I waited 2 hours to be told for the first time in 18 months I did not need to have the injection unfortunately the two clinicians were very hard to understand. I have not received my follow up appointment . I have rang on 5 occasions and have left messages. Today I managed to speak to someone who said the lady I needed to speak to was on annual leave.

The last time I had this problem quite a few weeks went by and when I was eventually seen my eye had deteriorated and the consultant asked me if I was going to take this up with the trust.

Having worked in the NHS for 25 years I know mistakes happen but I am quite frustrated at not being able to sort out this problem. Eyes are very precious.

Dear Maureen,

Please accept my apologies for the delays you have experienced. I have alerted the Service Manager for the Ophthalmology Service and asked them to review what has happened here. What would help us to help you is if you were to get in touch by email or by telephone to raise this directly through our PALS service. The number to call is 01279 827211 or email pals@pah.nhs.uk.
