"Were nervious from the start but left with 5..."

About: The Royal London Hospital / Maternity

Our baby daughter was born just last weekend. From the day we knew we were expecting a child we, like every other parent, were researching where to go based on personal stories and reviews online. Our experience is the following:

Pre-birth:

All appointments were scheduled accordingly with no issues on availability. However when we arrived on two occasions there was an hour delay each time. No big issue really. The health staff were fantastic and provided good advice. When they noticed a drop in the velocity of birth growth they asked us for another scan the following week and walked us through the uncertainty (ended up being a change in diet plan for my wife). My only issue was when my wife tried to make phone calls no one picked up and she found the reception staff to be quite frustrating at times. Overall experience for pre-birth care: 4/5. Would recommend.

During birth and after:

This is where we were extremely impressed. From going into the hospital from induction, to labor ward to recovery the staff were incredible. Very attentive, caring and explained everything step by step. My wife required a C-section last minute and this was handled with the best care I found. We booked a private room for the recovery and again excellent service. We asked to be discharged a day early given all clear and left for home with incredible memories.

Our overall experience was 5/5. I could not fault anything major. I'm from the US where I have always had private care and this was on par - if not better at times. The doctors and midwives during the pregnancy were incredible and we are forever grateful.

2 negative factors worth noting:

- The area around the hospital is totally run down but we felt safe.

- There is no parking at the hospital but we found a private space 8 mins wak.
