"severe pain in left hand"

About: Sevenoaks Hospital

I recently visited Sevenoaks minor injuries unit on Friday 18 th May. I was triaged as normal and and from then on my care was exemplary. It was getting near to Xray closure and they fitted me in quickly. I was seen quite quickly with the results. The nurse was happy with the result of no bones broken. As she carefully examined my hand, carrying out exploratory investigations into the tendons , she found, along with my telling her how the pain had happened a dropped middle finger. It was her quick and decisive action that took me to East Grinstead hand trauma clinic on Sunday which confirmed a torn tendon. I cannot thank enough the Xray department and the nurses involved. Whilst in the waiting room it was interesting to see the number of people who had very minor needs indeed, where a dose of paracetamol or a dab of savlon would suffice. I was referred by by surgery and I wonder how many surgeries are using this as a way to reduce pressure. Thank you Sevenoaks Hospital- where would we be without you. My whole visit took less than 2 hours! As long as you are aware of opening and closing times then it is understandable when nurses may be a little tired after a 12 hour shift.

Dear Diana

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about the exemplary care and attention you received at the Sevenoaks Minor Injury Unit and X-ray department.

It is good to hear that the nurse carried out a thorough investigation, which then directed you to attend the hand trauma clinic to receive the necessary care.

Your feedback will be passed onto the service leads to share with staff.

We hope that your torn tendon heals very soon.

Best wishes
