I would like to express my sincere thanks for the professionalism and sincerity shown by every member of staff who dealt with my father last Friday afternoon when he attended A&E at Wythenshawe Hospital. For me the situation began when a paramedic contacted my wife to advise us that my father had fallen in the garden, cutting his head. We were told that my mum was very upset and that one of the family should travel to the hospital as soon as possible to comfort my mum.
I arrived at the hospital just as my mum was being walked into the brand new A&E department by two female paramedics or ambulance drivers. They were absolutely lovely with my mother and walked us round to see my father who was by now lying on a bed ready for assessment in one of the arrival / triage rooms.
From there on in every member of staff who spoke to me and my parents and attended to my father were a credit to the NHS. Fortunately I do not have to use the NHS very often and I sometimes allow some of the negative reportage in the media to influence my opinion of the service you currently provide.
Our experience last Friday afternoon was nothing short of first class, not only did you sympathetically deal with my father, allowing for his repetitive stories, a symptom of his dementia, but you recognised the pressure his illness is putting on my mum. We have tried hard to persuade them to accept carers coming into their home, each time this has been declined. Your staff quickly identified the problems and were able to convince them that they needed some support and that this support would be forthcoming in the next week or two.
On behalf of all our family I would like to thank you for the care, support and professionalism that you provided.
