"Professionnal and caring staff in Gynea and Obs..."

About: Queen Alexandra Hospital

What I liked

Being 9 week pregnant, I started to bleed on Sunday afternoon and we called the hospital straight away. I got an appointment first thing on Monday morning at the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit, which was great and quite quick.

Staff was really nice with me during the scan and when we discovered I was misscarrying. I was put in a special room really confortable, isolated from the other ladies in the service, to be able to recover from the shock, and somebody came to tell me about my options.

I was booked straight away for ERPC on Tuesday afternoon.

All the staff was really nice, understanding and taking good care of me.They gave me a single room, which was nice as I didn't want to be with anyone in these circumstances.

I was quite unused to have to walk to surgery and wait for surgery in a room with other people, as it was not the way they were doing in other hospital I was treated in abroad, but I've been told I could have had a trolley if I wasn't feeling well enough to walk, and the staff in the waiting room was agreeable and passing time talking to you to make you at ease.

I was given food and drinks after surgery even if it wasn't lunch time, and somebody was checking on me regularly. Food was actually really nice for hospital food, compared to what I used to have in other hospitals.

Staff was friendly, caring and really professionnal. I already had a miscarriage in another hospital, but for this one in QA I found that the experience was a lot less traumatic compared to my first misscarriage ( when I was surrounded by "prison door" nurses or too condescendant people, different doctors in less than 24h in the hospital, not seeming to care a little bit, etc.).

Thumbs up for the Gynea and Obs unit in QA. Would really recommend to my friends.

What could be improved

Just found a few crumbs under my bed, but nothing is perfect!^^ Otherwise everything was fine.

Thank you for your feedback on your positive experience of using our early pregnancy service. I am really pleased that you felt cared for at a very difficult time. I have taken on board your feedback about the walking to theatre, which is a relatively recent development and I shall ask that people are advised of the reasons for that change in practice.
