"awful experience"

About: Park Leys Medical Practice

At this practise you have to ring and request an appointment and then the doctors call you back to see if you need to come in to see them. A tiring process and when you call the receptionist grill you to find out what is wrong with you, even though they are not medically trained. Used to be a good surgery but now with this system in place it has gone downhill. Receptionist always ask your date of birth on the phone and when you are sitting in a public place you don't want others around you to know this.

Then you have to wait as there is no specific timescales to when the doctor will call you - so you could be waiting for up to 3 hours before they call you. Question here is what if you are at work or are elderly and don't have a mobile phone so have to stay in for the whole three hours for your landline to ring?

Then if they do call you and you are not available they will leave a message and not call you again. This is wrong as you need advice on a subject and have to call in again. Also, when you haven't been called for 3 hours you call them again and get through to the receptionist who advise you that the doctor has just tried to call you but your phone was engaged. Of course the phone will be engaged as I am on the phone to you!!! so then they will put your name back on the list to be called but you have to wait again as you are on the bottom of the list now.........

Overall I feel this system does not work so needs to be changed in some way.....

I am sorry that you have found our telephone call back system difficult to navigate. Telephone triage allows us to ensure that we are able to have appointments for patients who are poorly and need a same day appointment. There are telephone appointments available througout the day until 6.30pm Mon-Thurs and 6pm on a Friday. You are welcome to request a call back at a time of the day that is convenient to you, please inform our reception team of a time that will be convenient.

Our GP's have asked our receptionists to ask about the nature of your call to try and book patients with the right health care professional to try and avoid delays in contacting you.

If you would like to contact me to discuss the process in more detail, please do not hesitate to contact the practice.

Kind regards

Claire Underhill

Practice Manager
