"Why the delay?"

About: New Victoria Hospital / Minor injuries unit Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Bones, joint and fractures

(as the patient),

I fell downstairs a fortnight ago..did not seek medical help as i thought i had only staved it ..but as time went on it still pained me ..i dropped into the Victoria hospital minor injuries dept  and was seen by a doctor who was very capable and caring ..I was sent to xray ..that showed i had broken my finger at the knuckle he showed me the xray and you could see that on each side of finger 2  small triangular bones were displaced one on each side

The Doctor showed xrays to orthopedic doctors ..who told him that they wanted to operate to rectify the problem ..i was told to fast from midnight as I would recieve a call this morning to attend the QE ..i did what was asked of me ..then i got a phone call the next morning  and was told i would get an appointment for the clinic next week ..it was only afterwards I thought what had changed from a consultant opinion ..that i would need surgical intervention to another saying more or less  No intervention needed at this time.

I am not happy that I was not given an explanation as too why the change of opinion ..i now find the more I think of it the uneasier I get ..so  I am going to call the Greater Glasgow healthboard and ask them to inquire as too why the change of opinion and the delay ..the bones are out of alignment I seen this for myself when the young doctor showed me and my friend the xray and it will need surgical intervention so why the delay ??

Dear Gramary

Thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear about your accident.

I am unsure why there has been a delay regarding your treatment and why this wasn’t explained to you when we contacted you. As this is a public website, can you email me with your personal details (including your date of birth or CHI number) so that we can look into this further? My email address is Nicole.McInally@ggc.scot.nhs.uk I would be grateful if you could include your username in your email.

Thank you

Nicole

Thank you for getting in touch with your details.

I am sorry that when we contacted you, that we did not explain why the change of opinion regarding surgery. I understand that you have since attended the Fracture Clinic and that the staff have discussed your treatment plan with you.
