"Lack of working tvs and radios in the wards"

About: Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre

(as a relative),

Every time, my family member is admitted to the Beatson, the care is excellent, but why are there no tvs working in the wards. It is a very long day and with nothing to keep you occupied, can be a very depressing stay. Surely, the Beatson can spend a bit of money and get them fixed. It promises, promises! ! !

Dear Cuddly Cat

Thank you for taking the time to post on Care Opinion.

I am pleased to read that the care in the Beatson is excellent. However, I am sorry that there are no working TV’s on the wards and I can appreciate that this makes it a very long day for our patients. We are aware that there have been issues with the TV’s and I will contact my colleagues in Facilities for an update.

Best wishes

Nicole

Will look forward to an update, my dad has terminal cancer and his only joy is listening to the radio or TV. I think it is a disgrace that the tvs haven't been working for years. In this day and age, it is not on that they are not working. As you say, it is a long day. Look forward to your reply from estates

Dear Cuddly Cat

I am sorry to hear about your Dad’s TV not working. This is something that we have been trying to resolve. Many of our wards have now purchased TV’s which we can bring to the patient’s bedside. I am sorry that you and your Dad were not told about this. We are also looking into replacing all of our TVs to help improve our patients’ stay.

Please pass on my apologies to your Dad.

Kind Regards

Elaine Burt

The televisions are only for single rooms,I asked. The hospital radio does requests and nobody can hear them half the time.It is a really poor service, I appreciate your reply, but some thing needs to get done about, as according to staff, some tvs haven't been working for over 5years. Also the weeds outside B2 single room windows are about 5ft tall, not something a terminally ill patient wants to look out on. It would take a day to clear and make a patient a bit happier. Again, the care in the Beatson is wonderful!!! It's the Little things that can make a difference
