I was admitted urgently in spring 2017 with an unknown (pre-existing) spinal condition, caused by a historic accident, it had been with me for decades, although i have always struggled with a 'bad back' things had got worse & I was struggling to walk, after many scans etc i had an urgent appointment with a consultant who rushed me through the system and I was admitted within 3 weeks for 2 large spinal ops in order to save my mobility.
Through a truly terrifying ordeal from start to finish i was looked after with the utmost respect and care, I was on Moorgate ward for 2 months and got to know all of the staff, i was taught to walk again after surgery which seemed an impossible task to begin with.
I have suffered a permanent spinal cord injury, however, i am back on my feet, and compared to most am doing very well.
During my stay and under tests another condition came to light, i was assessed and needed further surgery from a different speciality and was dealt with whilst i was there.
I have been back and forth to Derriford hospital many times in the last year due to additional complications, i cannot speak highly enough of all these amazing people who are stretched to the limit, but still find a way to help as many people as humanly possible in a completely caring and professional way.
Thank you all.
