Dear gifteq95

Thank you for your post.

I am sorry about your experience at the Minor Injuries Unit. I am glad that you did get treatment at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary. There are, however a number of issues you have highlighted, particularly about how we communicate with our patients about how the Minor Injuries Unit works, and what it can treat.

For information for you, or for anyone else who may be reading this, the Minor Injuries Unit is open from 9.00am to 9.00pm every day of the year. However, if you attend near closing time the staff will assess your condition and will advise if you need to attend an Emergency Department or whether to contact your GP or NHS 24.

There are only certain types of injuries that the Minor Injuries Units will treat such as cuts (including ones that need stitches), broken bones, sprains and minor burns. Sometimes if a patient comes to the Minor Injury Unit with an ongoing condition, or something else that this department cannot treat, they will be advised on where to go for the right attention. This will sometimes be to Emergency Department if appropriate, or to their GP or NHS 24.

I will share you post with the General Manager for the Minor Injuries Unit so that we can learn from your experience.

Best wishes

Nicole

Update posted by gifteq95 (a service user)

Nicole

Thankyou and I am very impressed by your quick response

It was worrying as the Royal

Mentioned meningitis

But it was not

The minor unit who I went to first

Definitely dismissed me without really

Checking even in the smallest way

In fact as a non complainer it must have been bad manners for me to write in

Thankyou again Nicole for your reply

Dear gifteq95

Thanks for your response.

Our patients should not leave any of our hospital feeling dismissed and I apologise for this. I appreciate that this was a worrying time for you and I am glad that you did not have meningitis.

Please be assured that you are within your rights to give feedback regarding any aspect of your care. We share all feedback with the hospital’s Senior Management Team so that we can learn from this and improve our services.

Best wishes

Nicole
