My partner had a motorcycle accident in 2015 and is still waiting for an urgent operation of his knee so that he can get back to work. His accident happened in Surrey and due to constant delays and 2 operations later his knee still wasn't right. He wasn't being listened to by his Surgeon so he decided to transfer down to the local hospital which is QA in Hampshire.
Unfortunately because the Surgeon in Surrey had an accident, they were unable to refer my boyfriend, so this had to be done through the Doctor which took absolutely ages, delaying things even further. Eventually transferred to QA a year ago, he was then put on the waiting list to see a Surgeon. My partner had gone to see this surgeon privately, whilst he was a patient in Surrey as he was having physio after his first and second operations but the physio was taking place at QA! Whilst he was there he was advised to go for a second opinion which he paid privately for and was so impressed with the surgeon that this swayed him to transfer down to QA.My partner's surgeon wants to do an exploratory operation and booked him in for this back in November but this got cancelled as he was told he didn't meet the criteria for a camera in his knee! He was then told he will be having an operation to take the metal work out and they can hopefully look whilst they are in there so they can determine whether he needs a partial or full knee replacement. He has had 3 pre-ops and just heard that his operation could be in July/August this year. He will then have to wait to see if he is eligible for a knee replacement. Unfortunately this is not a choice for him, he desperately needs this done so that he can get back to work. He has been off work for nearly 3 years and is just about surviving on benefits. His other knee is starting to go now as a result of 3 years of compensating for his other knee so he will then probably had to have that knee replaced as well. For people like him, who have hardly taken a day off work in their life sick, you can imagine the impact this is having on him. He feels there is no-one he can turn to to advise him as his insurance company are only interested in the claim.
