"against all odds"

Came in today in ambulance,with a friend suffering from Parkinsons,who had fallen and fractured his hip.

I cannot believe the problems faced in A&E with shortage of beds,staff and space.My friend spent 4 hours in a corridor waiting for a bed to become available! BUT I am not complaining - I am praising the wonderful staff who coped so well in spite of eeerything,and were unfailingly polite,cheerful and compassionate.Thank you all.
