"Patient letter breach of confidentiality"

About: Western General Hospital / Oncology

(as other),

I received a neighbour's post by mistake. I forwarded it to them however I was concerned that as the letter was in window type envelope it could be clearly seen that it was from the Department of Clinical Oncology. Can I suggest that mail is not sent in window envelopes as it could breach patient confidentiality which I feel on this occasion it has done.

I am really sorry to hear that this has occurred and thank you for raising it as an issue. We have begun an investigation into the processes which have resulted in this incident and will endeavour to ensure that this does not recur.

If you would like to discuss further please feel free to contact me directly via the NHS Lothian switchboard (0131 537 1000).
