On Friday night I accompanied a Deaf client of mine to A&E who had severe pains in his side. As well as being Deaf he also has additional needs.
The staff in this department could not have been more accomidating! They allowed him time to ask any questions through myself as his interpreter. They gave him extra time to prepare himself for a blood test as he has a particular feral needles. They spoke directly to him and made him feel included in all the decisions being made. They referred to him by name and also myself by name as well. They run so many tests to rule out as much as they could as they were aware of him living alone and would be by himself for the weekend. They made clear and simplified recommendations as they wanted him to understand what they were saying. The waiting were long but they ensured that we were I formed of these at every stage and we always went in earlier than we were told.
The staff were happy and made jokes with the pair us to keep our spirits high and i couldn't have been more impressed. In a stressful situation i can honestly say I've not had such a good time in A&E ever!!
My commendations to you all, you are the rue heroes of our NHS and should be given so much praise to match your skills.
"Can't thank you enough!!"
